just a...

short post. i'm a half hour behind for my painkiller dosage. although the pain has greatly diminished over the past two days, it still hurts on both ankle sides. the sharp pain is still enough to keep me in bed for 18-20 hours a day.

well, meester vicodin is no longer my best friend. after three doses in twelve hours, with not enough food, i figured it would be better to just go the route of omitting any narcotics from my system; i just can't process it quickly enough.

and after barfing up extremely acrid tea and strawberry banana yogurt, i vowed to stick to just maximum dosages of acetaminophen or ibuprofen. who cares if i can't sleep...i just can't handle the nausea/listlessness/out of control. and for someone who has slept through two small earthquakes in peru, sleep is rarely a problem for me ;)

hope your weekend starts off well!

Ugh, look what happens when I am gone for a few weeks! Sorry to hear about your ankle!

Acetaminophen isn't good enough for your post-op pain, don't even bother with it. If your doc OK'd Ibuprofen, stick with that after food. Plus, if Ibu doesn't cut it, you can take a vicodin later without getting too much acetaminophen, which can harm your liver.

However, I must say for the record that I think avoiding your narc pain killers will do you more harm than good in the long run. Once pain "gets away from you" it's hard to get back on top of it again (example: one Vicodin every six hours is better than no Vicodin for 18 hours, then you can't get pain control with 2 vicodin in a row because the pain got away from you).

If nausea is a problem, CALL YOUR DOCTOR and ask for some phenergan pills to take an hour before you take the vicodin. It may help the vicodin work even better too.

If you're in pain, you won't move around as much. Laying still is bad for your circulation and your lungs, especially after a surgery.

Email me if you need a nurse! :) Sounds like Lois has already "been there done that" so you may already have one. ;)
